Canon 8x25 Image Stabilization Binoculars w/Case and Neck Strap Review

They are, and they aren't, great binocs
What they are: as it says, the lightest and least expensive IS binoculars on the market (right now). The optics themselves are only merely very good, but - HAND HELD - with the IS activated, they allow me to read fine print about 20% closer than with my Leica 8x32 Ultras. On a rest, the Leicas are superior. It's the elimination of the jiggles - the 8x25 Canons don't give an image that's as bright and contrasty as those high dollar Leicas, but the steadier image more than makes up for that.
What they aren't: waterproof or armored. So have a care if you use them in conditions of rain or dust. They're much more complicated than simple binocs, with electric circuits inside, and the matter of reliability does come into consideration - but in the first year, they've survived life in the tote bag ,bouncing along dirt roads without a hiccup. Two more things: besides armoring and ruggedizing, Canon had to compromise _somewhere_ to make them this small. So, while the IS deals well with rapid human shaking. it doesn't seem to correct at all for slow motions. I imagine the engineers were forcd to leave off the sensors for slow motions, to fit everything else in. And, they use CR123 batteries, more expensive and harder to find in a pinch than AA batteries. Of course, if the batteries run dead, all your are left with is a functional set of very good, if a bit bulky, 8x25 binocs. What Canon has created is $300 binoculars that - hand held, with the IS active - outperform my high dollar Leica 8x32 Ultras. And, I imagine, the Nikon SE's, too. No kidding.

Whether you are sitting in the nosebleed seats of a stadium or an opera house, with Canon's 8 x 25 IS binoculars you'll get an outstanding close-up view of the action. The binoculars are designed to fit perfectly in your hands and have a rubber coating for nonslip grip and protection from damage. The focus dial is center-mounted and the image stabilizer controls are easily accessible from either hand. Canon's optical image stabilization technology eliminates shake and reduces curvature of field. The image stabilizer operates with a CR123A Lithium battery. The lenses are coated with Super Spectra multicoating that improves image quality by maximizing contrast and minimizing color smear.
Image Stabilization and More With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon's professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP shape alters to refract or 'bend' the light path by precisely the right amount, thus fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response that effectively suppresses image shake.
Super Spectra CoatingA number of optical factors affect the brightness of an image, including the amount of incidental light that is reflected by the lens. An uncoated lens will refelect away as much as 8% of the incidentail light, significantly dimming the image. Canon's Super Spectra Coating prevents that reflection.
What do the numbers mean? 15x50? 8x25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification - 8x, 12x, 15x and so on - and the diameter of their objective lenses - 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The larger the first number is, the larger the object will appear to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object that is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object located just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important because the larger the objective lens, the more light it can admit for brighter, more detailed images, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations. Tenba 638-685 MIXX Large Camera Pouch (Black/Orange) Review

Tenba 638-685 MIXX Large Camera Pouch (Black/Orange)
Average Reviews:

Compact case that gives substantial protection. I feel like my camera is very safe in this pouch and use it when I travel. The detachable strap is nice because it gives me the option to carry it alone or to throw it into a bigger bag. The case is not slim, but it is not overly bulky - it is what you would expect from this amount of protection for your camera. My Canon Powershot SX200 IS fits perfectly in this case. There is a small internal pouch that fits a spare battery perfectly, although things tend to fall out of this little pouch. The blue color looks identical to the image. Only issue I have with this case is that the velcro closure gets stuck to the wrist strap of my camera and has caused that to fray slightly - a minor inconvenience that is avoided as long as I pay attention when I put my camera away. All in all, great bag - definitely recommend it!

Tenba Shootout 632-643 Convertible Photo Sling Bag Small (Black) Review

Tenba Shootout 632-643 Convertible Photo Sling Bag Small (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this bag in black/olive color (632-641). Originally I didn't give it much thought and passed over it since I wanted a bag I could swing around to my waist and you wouldn't think a backpack style bag can do that. Appearances can be deceiving.
This bag is designed to swing around for access without having to take it off your shoulder. What appears to be a zipper pouch (in the Amazon photo of the product it's the zipper section on the lower left side of the bag) is actually a door that opens to the interior of the bag. The shoulder strap is designed to be worn over your right shoulder, down across your chest, and buckles to the bag on the lower left side. With this arrangement, if you swing the bag around to your front (without removing it from your shoulder or disconnecting the strap) the entire bag will NOW be positioned in front of you, sideways, and just above waist level. What's more, that zipper door on the 'lower left' side of the bag will now be on 'top' of the bag. This means you have access to your spare lenses, accessories, flash, etc. without actually needing to remove the bag. There is a second smaller strap that connects from the lower right corner of the bag and snaps to a buckle on the front of the shoulder strap - this gives it more stability so it can't slide around if you're hiking. For occasional use it is not necessary to connect the second strap and there's a sleeve on the side of the bag to tuck in the strap when it's not being used (so you don't have a dangling strap).
The entire inside appears to be two compartments. One on the top of the bag (which has padded baffles to allow the camera and lens to rest face-down inside the bag), and a lower section with numerous adjustable dividers (velcro). The entire "floor" that separates the top from the bottom is also attached via velcro and can be adjusted to any height, allowing you to apportion space to the top section vs. the bottom section.
The full padded back of the bag (the part that would rest against your back) also zippers completely open. It zippers open down the left, bottom, and right sides of the bag.
Everything on the inside is adjustable. All baffles, dividers, and floor sections are connected using velcro and can be repositioned.
The right-side of the bag (not visible in the Amazon product picture) has a pair of adjustable straps intended to attach a small tripod or mono-pod. There is also a non-adjustable strap on the bottom of the bag which could be used to attach or hang an extra accessory.
Tenba "Shootout" series bags are designed for outdoor use with exposure to weather. The zippers are all designed to be fairly weather-tight. Every zipper has a vinyl seal so the teeth are not exposed when the zippers are closed. The bag is not "waterproof" but is "water-resistant" and would have no problem with medium rain or spray. The bag also comes with a rain slick which covers every side of the bag *except* the back-pad -- this is suitable for protection if you're caught in more severe weather.
I think this bag has better quality than just about any of the other bags I looked at. I only gave it four stars (instead of 5) because some of the areas of this bag were just a little too small. My camera outfit includes a camera body with an 18-55mm zoom, a 55-250mm zoom, a 60mm macro lens, a dedicated flash, diffuser, a large battery shoe (mates to bottom of the DSLR), as well as some smaller items such as filters, remote shutter release, spare batteries & charger . Capacity-wise the bag is large enough. But organizationally, the whole point of the bag is to allow me to switch lenses, get to my flash, etc. without having to take the bag off my back. It took a while to find any arrangement of the adjustable compartments that would allow everything to fit in the bag, but I had to sacrifice accessibility and take the bag off my back in order to access what I needed. The dividers in the lower section seem designed with the assumption that you'll open the full back to get inside the bag. If positioned to allow access from the side door the dividers are a bit too tall and it was difficult to get various accessories in and out of the bag easily (it would have helped if the side door was a bit larger). If the camera (I used a Canon EOS Rebel T1i) is in the top section pointed down (which is how they intend for it to be stored) the floor dividing the upper and lower sections needed to be repositioned because the 18-55mm lens (which isn't particularly long) was too tall. Repositioning the floor took away so much space from the lower section that my gear really didn't fit anymore, and created a lot of wasted space in the top (of course this is a matter of how much gear you have -- on the positive side you could fit a camera with a very very long lens inside the bag if you wanted.
I love the product construction quality (it's not flimsy) and the cleverness of the design, but I think the baffles & dividers need to be made for better accessibility from the side door (which is the whole point of the bag).
I think this bag would be ideal for someone with fewer accessories & lenses. Tenba makes a 'medium' size version of this same bag which I haven't tried yet, but I do plan to check it out and see if it works a little better.
Tenba has a video tour of the bag on their own website for better views and demonstrates how to wear and use the sling bag.

This camera bag is great! I can fit all 3 of my cameras, and battery chargers in this case at the same time and there is still room. I also have room for extra batteries and cards for the cameras!

Received a Kindle for Xmas and thought it needed some kind of case while carrying it around. The Ruby Red Cube fits the bill perfectly. It looks great (attracts a lot of attention to both the Kindle and the case!)and how nice to throw in a car charger and a stretchy wrist band that says "Live, Laugh, Love"! I'm completely satisfied with everything and would buy from Vangoddy again.
